Han er født 1961 i Tromsø. Studerte kontrabass under legendariske professor Ludwig Streicher i Wien. Etter studiene har han livnært seg både som solobassist og musiker i Europas mest kjente orkestre: Mahler Chamber Orchestra (Berlin), Ensemble Modern (Frankfurt), Lucern Festival Orchestra (Abbado) m.fl

På Festspillene i Nord-Norge 2007, hadde han hovedrollen i Patrick Süskinds teaterstykke «Kontrabassen». Det ble både en publikum- og kritikersuksess. Knut Erik Sundquist en stor humorist og kommunikator. Han behandler sitt instrument med avslappet virtuositet. Han er bosatt i sitt elskede Nord-Norge (Harstad), og spiller gjerne med musikere og artister i helt andre sjangere enn den klassiske.

Derfor trives han overalt, enten det er Carnegie Hall i New York, eller i et lite grendehus langt nord for polarsirkelen. I 2010 dro han med seg et helt symfoniorkester og holdt konsert for et begeistret publikum på ølhallen i Tromsø! Uansett hvor Knut Erik Sundquist måtte befinne seg med sin bass, kan man være sikre på to ting: Trampeklapp og ekstranummer!

 

You won’t forget a concert with double bassist Knut Erik Sundquist. He plays with such playful elegance and beauty that you sense a performer who takes music seriously. He was born in Tromsø in 1961. He studied double bass under the legendary professor Ludwig Streicher in Vienna. After completing his studies, he has made a living both as a solo bassist and as a musician in Europe’s most famous orchestras: the Mahler Chamber Orchestra (Berlin), Ensemble Modern (Frankfurt), Lucerne Festival Orchestra (Abbado), and others.
At the 2007 Northern Norway Festival, he played the lead role in Patrick Süskind’s play “The Double Bass.” It was a success with both audiences and critics. Knut Erik Sundquist is a great humorist and communicator. He treats his instrument with relaxed virtuosity. He lives in his beloved Northern Norway (Harstad) and enjoys playing with musicians and artists in genres other than classical music. That is why he thrives everywhere, whether it is Carnegie Hall in New York or a small village hall far north of the Arctic Circle. In 2010, he brought an entire symphony orchestra with him and gave a concert for an enthusiastic audience at the beer hall in Tromsø!
